ROMEO!!

Here is my new boy Romeo. He is a 6 year old quarter horse and has an amazing personality. He is a little shy at first but when he is comfortable he gives his heart. I bought him from a good friend of mine because I wanted a trail horse that I could ride a lot. Right now I have a lot of young or pregnant horses and only 2 that can ride out on the trails...well one that goes on the trails and one that can be ridden but is nervous of the trails.

Romeo arrived today and he is in a field that is surrounded by the other horse herds, so he ran back and forth to meet everyone along the fence line! He has lovely movement.

This is the herd that Romeo will be joining - Buck, Pepsi, Tia (and Ace when he returns from training in the fall). So I was glad to see them all chatting over the fenceline and being civil with one another.

Buck and Romeo having a little conversation I guess ;) These boys will do well together and I think they will become good friends.

To be sure you can ride Romeo out on trails in safety I recommend Basic Training for a Safe Trail Horse with subtitle of Eliminating the Fear Factors. It is a small inexpensive paperback written especially for recreational riders who keep horses at home. It shows how to teach a horse to be safe for trail riding by relating to him as his alpha mare herd member. It is a narrative with instructions that are logical and direct and only require patience enough to be insistent, persistent, and consistent. Very little equipment more than good trail tack is necessary...no round pens, no longe lines, no spurs and preferably no bits. It is available at Amazon.com or questions may be emailed to the author at safetrailhorse@gmail.com where an autographed copy is available.
