Our first ride together!

Cricket and I had our first ride together today and it was great! We had fun, although Cricket does not like her bit. I will head out to the co-op this week and get her a simple egg-butt snaffle instead of this full cheek snaffle. This bit was Ruby's but Cricket does not like it.
She definitely looks like a western horse!!! She looks awsome done up in western tack with a blue navajo deisgned saddle pad.
I CANNOT wait until we can head down the trails in the spring. When the weather is warmer and drier it will be great :0)

A visit with the city girl

Cher did not find the llamas too appealing....she thought they were scary....now how could ANYONE think those cute little fuzzy creatures are scary!?!?!?!?! She said it freaks her out how the llamas stare right at you ant then walk up slowly...
Cricket was a big hit. Cher has deemed Cricket 'her' horse and she wants to ride Cricket when she rides next time :)
Aw cute.

In other news, I spoke to the lady who I am trading Dyna to for Phoebe, and we are still on. The planned date is this sunday at 9-10 am. BUT the lady is is active labour at the moment, so it could be postponed for a bit:)

I am going to miss the big girl, Gracie is definitely going to miss her, but times change, new paths are forged and simply life goes on. Gracie will have to learn to deal with it and accept Crickey and Phoebe or she will be sitting out there alone. Gracie has A LOT of bravado right now and I am hoping she gets a bit of an attitude adjustment when Dyna leaves and let the other girls in. Cricket has been at the barn for 2 weeks now and Gracie still tries to bite her :( right now I think Gracie has an inflated ego becuase big ole Dyna is with her, but soon the only friends Gracie will have are Cricket and Phoebe...

But life is life, horses are horses, time will tell.

Cricket and her bale of hay...

Cricket decided to help herself to the nice, new round bale of hay and get the choice pieces before it was put out into the field for everyone to enjoy! I get a lot of comments on Cricket about how pretty she is.... I love the paints, especially black and white ones....I have always liked black and white animals, I have a black and white dog and a black and white cat as well.
Cricket has settled in well and will be joining Gracie next weekend. Cricket and Gracie will also be joined by Blaze and Phoenix. If all goes smooth, by next sunday our herd should be complete and closed....FINALLY! We have been working for over a year to get the right horses into out herd, so now all we have to do is get them all to the farm and all in together :)

Goodbye's

Well I made the decision to find Dyna a new home. She is a great horse and I love her, but she is a big girl who needs a job. She is a bit intimidating for people to ride, though she is a nice ride. She is going to a wonderful home where she will live with 3 other mares, outside 24/7, and in the summer she will pull a wagon. The people who have bought Dyna are young, and they seem really nice. They are expecting a baby any day now, so Dyna in a year or two will have a little fella to give horse rides to.

I am gonig to miss her, but it will be better for her. Dyna loves to work, she is good at her job and here she is just not getting the work that she needs, because I don't drive horses.

Dyna leaves on sunday, and we are trading Dyna for a QH/Cob that is for trails. She is much smaller than Dyna, only 15hh, bay and most importantly good for trail rides. So we are doing a trade.

I am sad to see Dyna go, she will be missed, but I am excited for the arrival of Phoenix!

Being Silly

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Poor Dyna, I was just playing around with the girls today and decided to see what Dyna would do if I hung her halter off of her ear.....she did nothing! what a good girl! She is not amused, but she was told to stand still and she did!

WOOOHOOOOO BLAZE!

WOOOHOOOOOOOO! Blaze is doing so well!!!! He has grown and is looking great! He is almost taller than me now :)
He is such a well behaved and handsome little boy. Such a sweetie, he loves people, loves attention and walks up to me in the fields now when I go to get him. He loves treats too!
I had fun with Blaze today. We spent some time bonding and just hanging out. I am hoping he will be coming home in March, not too long from now, seeing as it is the middle of January already! He is a gem.

NEW ARRIVAL!!!

Bought a new horse and she arrived on saturday. She is a GORGEOUS black and white, Reg. APHA, Tobiano paint mare. Her barn name is Cricket! She is a gentle, wonderful girl.
As you can see, Cricket is much smaller than my other mares! She is only 15.1 hh while Gracie is 17 hh and Dyna is 18.1 hh. WOW, Gracie and Dyna's heads look HUGE!
Can't wait to get out riding her. Cricket is missing her left eye, so she needs extra time to get used to her surroundings so she can see everything. She will be in the barn yard with the other animals for a few weeks still before I put her in with the big girls, they are so big she is so small...........

winter? spring?

so we went from this...

to this??
... in the span of 3 days! HONEST!........... I am certianly not complaining....:)

...we have been having +10, +12 weather and all the snow has melted. I had to take the blankets off the horses or they would have been way too hot and sweaty.
She's feeling good....OH she's definitely feeling good! Gracie has been enjoying this warmer weather. She thinks that spring is here.....it has made her very hyper and she spends lots of time running and bucking!

Gracie and Dyna running around their pasture. They are having so much fun out there, they will be so sad when winter rears its ugly head again.....I could stand for this weather for the rest of the season though!

New Babies!

Awwww! The baby goats have finally arrived! They are both boys, both soft and both so cute!
aw...! its nice that they were born during this warm period. The snow is gone and its jan 9th. I can handle this for the rest of the winter...
I LOVE THEM!

Gracies farm!

Gracie decided to help out with the farm chores today. Actually she decided to be the supervisor...
"do you guys know what you are doing?...DID YOU BREAK IT????????? that tractor brings my hay!!!"
"wait a minute...are you sure?.... here let me take a look"
"bring 'er in......over...over...easy does it..."
"whew! all that work, I need a break! time for lunch"

Just another day at the farm

Banjo was very curious today to see what Little Mr. Ginger, the resident barn cat was upto. Banjo followed Mr. Ginger for about 10 feet until they moved too far from the rest of the herd, then Banjo ran back to Muffins side. What a suck!
The hay was being loaded onto the tractor to be delivered to the girls' pasture.....they were intently watching to make sure that no morsel was left behind. Don't they look cute in their new bright halters?!?!?! Now we will never lose track of those two....:)
